Dance

Welcome to NSA's Dance Conservatory

The Dance Conservatory provides students with classical ballet and modern training, essential for continued growth in college conservatory-based schools and professional careers in dance. Dancers will also study anatomy, dance history, terminology, jazz dance, cultural dance, tap, pointe, musical theater, choreography, and improvisation.

Guest instructors frequently work with students during classes and after school to provide additional training and perspectives. NSA dancers have trained with Shabaz Ujima, Denise Eason, Teddy Tedholm, Andre Fuentes, Erin Law, and Erica Sobol, among other guest artists. Dancers have opportunities to take additional classes through the Metro Nashville Public Schools Dance Experience, housed at NSA.

The dance conservatory collaborates with Middle Tennessee State University, Tennessee Association of Dance, and Nashville Ballet. We annually attend the National High School Dance Festival, where our students have been invited to perform and have received acceptance and scholarships to summer and collegiate programs, including University of the Arts, Point Park University, Rutgers University, New World School of the Arts, The Hartt School, American Dance Festival, and Joffrey.

There are many opportunities for students to perform in community events and at school. Some of the most memorable include dancing Swan Lake, Rodeo, and Sleeping Beauty at the Schermerhorn with the Nashville Symphony. Dancers from NSA have continued to train at the university level and conservatory programs. They can be seen in professional ballet and modern dance companies, on Broadway, in music videos, choreographing, and teaching.
